Old Man Emu BP-51 Bypass Shock Absorbers

The Old Man Emu BP-51 range features high-performance bypass shock absorbers with a 51 mm bore, developed to provide a balance of comfort and control. The shock absorbers are vehicle-specific and use existing mounting locations for straightforward installation without additional vehicle modification.

Unlike many adjustable shock absorbers that only offer compression adjustment, the BP-51 allows independent, on-vehicle adjustment of both rebound and compression. This enables the ride to be tailored to the individual vehicle or trip requirements.

In addition to velocity-sensitive damping, where damping increases as piston movement becomes faster, the BP-51 also uses bypass technology to generate damping according to the piston’s position within the shock absorber body. Bypass passages create an alternative route between chambers around the piston, allowing some fluid to move through the piston while the remainder flows through the bypass passages. This design provides a comfortable, compliant ride during normal driving and greater control over more challenging terrain.

Old Man Emu BP-51 shock absorbers are manufactured in-house to support consistent quality. Their bodies are made from aircraft-grade 6061 anodized aluminum, which dissipates heat more efficiently than steel or alloy steel and provides superior corrosion resistance.
